Key objectives
- Automate the handling flow of shoe boxes across inbound, picking and shipping operations
- Significantly reduce the need for manual labour in repetitive tasks
- Minimise human error and optimise inventory management
- Accommodate different box sizes, ranging from 300 × 400 mm to 400 × 700 mm
- Integrate the system with returns management and box feeding into the picking lines
Technical requirements and constraints
- The warehouse had to comply with fire safety regulations by allowing water to drain to the lower levels
- Each storage location had to provide proper support for the boxes, taking account of the sliding handling method
- The system had to integrate with the WMS to automatically coordinate put-away and retrieval operations
- Picking accounted for the majority of the customer’s day-to-day operations

Our solution
Key features
Miniload handling system
- The system stores and retrieves boxes using lateral forks that push or pull the cardboard boxes along the aisles.
- The entire material flow is managed by the WMS, which assigns put-away and retrieval missions.
- At the aisle end, two vertically arranged conveyor levels—both accessible from floor level—form a loop that feeds boxes into the picking areas..

Modulblok folded steel shelf panels

3. Picking and sorting
- Operators use a pick-to-light system to retrieve individual shoe boxes.
- Once the order has been completed, any remaining boxes are redirected either back into the warehouse or to another picking bay for further processing.
- The completed order is then automatically transferred to the labelling and shipping area..
