What is pallet shuttle racking?
Pallet shuttle racking is a high-density storage solution based on deep-lane storage channels, where pallet movements are performed by an autonomous motorised shuttle operating inside the racking structure. The system consists of pallet racking configured with high-depth storage lanes. Within each lane, a shuttle travels along dedicated rails, automatically storing and retrieving pallets without requiring forklift entry into the structure. The operating principle is straightforward: the forklift places the pallet at the entrance of the storage lane, after which the shuttle takes over and automatically transports the load to the next available position. Retrieval follows the same process in reverse, ensuring controlled and continuous pallet handling. Unlike drive-in and drive-through systems, where forklifts operate directly inside the racking structure, pallet shuttle racking eliminates internal vehicle movements. This improves operational safety, reduces the risk of structural damage and enhances the overall reliability of the storage system.
