Modulblok expands its commitment to clean energy: photovoltaic capacity upgraded at the Amaro facility

Modulblok’s renewable energy journey began in 2019 with the installation of its first photovoltaic system, with a capacity of approximately 500 kWp. At the time, it was a forward-looking investment that enabled the company to generate more than 500,000 kWh of electricity annually on-site.

In 2025, the project entered a new phase with the addition of further photovoltaic capacity, bringing the facility close to the one-megawatt threshold. As a result, a significantly larger share of the plant’s energy demand can now be met through self-generated renewable electricity, with potential annual production exceeding 935,000 kWh and covering more than half of the facility’s electricity consumption.

The environmental impact is substantial. The upgraded installation is expected to avoid more than 400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, a benefit comparable to removing hundreds of vehicles from the road or planting thousands of trees.

Looking ahead, the company is closely monitoring two key developments. The first is the integration of energy storage systems, which would make it possible to retain electricity generated during peak sunlight hours and use it when demand is highest. The second is the emergence of Industrial Energy Communities, a model that would enable renewable energy to be shared among organisations within the same local area.

Both opportunities will be evaluated using the same engineering-driven approach that characterises Modulblok’s decision-making: combining long-term vision, rigorous analysis, and measurable outcomes.

This achievement forms part of Modulblok’s broader ESG strategy. From an Environmental perspective, the expansion of the photovoltaic system complements the adoption of internationally recognised standards that validate both management practices and impact measurement methodologies. Environmental performance is supported by structured frameworks and measurable processes: UNI EN ISO 14001 integrates environmental management into day-to-day operations, while ISO 14064 certifies the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.

On the Social front, Modulblok’s commitment is reflected in its ISO 45001 certification, which recognises the implementation of a health and safety management system based on risk prevention, continuous monitoring, and ongoing employee training. For Modulblok, sustainability also means investing in people and promoting safe, high-quality working environments.

The company’s vision extends beyond its own operations to encompass the wider supply chain. This includes greater transparency in supplier selection processes, the assessment of indirect environmental impacts, and collaboration with universities and external organisations to validate data, methodologies, and analytical approaches.
