Mobile pallet racking is a high-density storage system based on mobile bases running on rails, designed to significantly reduce the number of operating aisles while maximising warehouse storage capacity. The system consists of pallet racking installed on motorised mobile bases that travel along a rail-guided system. The mobile units move laterally to create only the aisle required for access, while all other aisles remain closed, eliminating unused space and increasing storage density. The operating principle is based on a controlled aisle-opening system. The operator selects the required aisle through a control interface, and the mobile bases automatically reposition the racking to create the necessary working space. Unlike conventional pallet racking, which requires an aisle for every row, and high-density accumulation systems such as drive-in or push-back racking, which limit direct access to stored loads, mobile pallet racking combines high storage density with selective access to every pallet.
A selection of mobile pallet racking configurations illustrating how the system increases storage density by reducing the number of operating aisles and making more efficient use of available warehouse space.
