Modulblok achieves UNI EN ISO 3834-2 certification: welding quality as a foundation for structural reliability

When welding plays a critical role in the safety and performance of a structure, technical expertise alone is not enough. What is required is a system capable of making quality consistent, measurable, and fully demonstrable. UNI EN ISO 3834-2 is the internationally recognised standard for companies performing fusion welding on metallic materials used in structural applications. It defines the comprehensive quality requirements—the highest level specified within the ISO 3834 framework—and provides a structured approach to managing welding activities where reliability and performance are paramount. For this reason, the standard is widely adopted in sectors where quality requirements are particularly demanding, including structural steelwork, industrial plant engineering, pressure equipment, oil and gas, and infrastructure projects.
Since 2012: structured controls, full traceability, and demonstrable expertise—even in automated welding processes
At Modulblok, this commitment is not new. The company has been certified to UNI EN ISO 3834-2 since 2012, reflecting a long-standing focus on the quality and reliability of its manufacturing processes.
In practical terms, the certification ensures that welding activities are managed through rigorous organisational, technical, and documentation procedures. These include clearly defined responsibilities, the involvement of qualified welding coordination personnel, and the qualification of both welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welding operators.
The system is designed to minimise the risk of defects, rework, and non-conformities through defined process parameters, planned inspections, and verification activities. During procedure qualification, these assessments may include destructive testing, while production operations are monitored through appropriate process controls and non-destructive inspection methods.
The same level of control applies to both conventional welding operations and highly automated manufacturing processes. Modulblok operates a dedicated welding facility equipped with robotic welding cells, where the repeatability of automated production is supported by the same requirements for traceability and quality control established by the standard. This includes the management of base materials and consumables, equipment control, process documentation, and production records, ensuring consistent quality throughout the manufacturing cycle.
UNI EN ISO 3834-2: welding quality as a structural requirement
From the customer’s perspective, ISO 3834-2 certification is a tangible indicator of industrial reliability. It helps reduce uncertainty regarding product quality and process consistency, supports greater predictability in project timelines and costs through the reduction of rework and non-conformities, and strengthens traceability throughout the manufacturing process. These are particularly important advantages in projects where compliance, documented quality, and demonstrable performance are critical requirements rather than optional considerations.
