Push-back pallet racking systems are high-density storage solutions designed to maximise lane depth and reduce the space required for operating aisles.
The Modulblok push-back system is a high-density storage solution based on compacting frames mounted on sliding rails, allowing storage of up to 6 pallets in depth per lane. This configuration increases storage capacity without expanding the warehouse footprint.
Unlike drive-in and drive-through systems, where forklifts enter the racking structure, push-back systems allow all operations to be carried out from a single working aisle. This approach improves operational safety and increases handling efficiency.
Each level consists of slightly inclined lanes in which pallets are placed on mobile carts or roller systems. During loading, each pallet pushes the previous ones further back into the lane; during unloading, gravity ensures the automatic forward movement of the pallets towards the picking face.
The system operates according to the LIFO (Last In, First Out) principle: the last pallet loaded is the first to be retrieved. Each lane is assigned to a single SKU, making this solution particularly suitable for homogeneous flows with medium turnover.
Push-back racking systems significantly improve both storage capacity and warehouse operational efficiency.
Space optimisation
The use of deep storage lanes and the elimination of intermediate aisles allow a substantial increase in storage capacity compared to conventional selective pallet racking systems.
Reduced handling times
Loading and unloading operations are performed from the front only. Since forklifts do not enter the structure, handling becomes faster and more streamlined.
Improved operational safety
The absence of internal forklift movements reduces the risk of impacts and structural damage, preserving the integrity of the racking system over time.
Structured stock management
The LIFO logic and the allocation of a single SKU per lane ensure clear and controlled inventory management.
Ideal for space-constrained environments
This system is particularly suitable for warehouses with limited space or for buffer zones and temporary pallet accumulation areas.
Push-back racking systems are modular solutions engineered to ensure structural reliability, operational precision and long-term performance.
Load-bearing structure
Made of structural steel frames and uprights, designed according to load requirements and anchored to the floor, ensuring stability and strength even under intensive use.
Beams and storage levels
Horizontal beams support the dynamic systems and define the storage levels, adaptable to different unit load dimensions.
Internal handling system
The core of the system consists of:
Movement is ensured by the combination of push force during loading and gravity during unloading, providing a continuous and controlled flow.
Configurations and performance
The system can be configured with different lane depths (typically up to 4–6 pallets) and with structure heights reaching approximately 7.5 metres, depending on project requirements.
Compatibility with handling equipment
Push-back racking is compatible with front-loading, reach and turret trucks. In higher applications, mast rigidity plays a key role in ensuring positioning accuracy and operational safety.
Safety and control devices
The system includes dedicated components for safe load handling:
